The Help by Kathryn Stockett
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
All I can say nicely is I am glad I did not pay for this book. After reading it I do not see the hype in this book and wish I would of passed it over.
UPDATE::: 3/22/2012
After talking with a older lady about this book I finally grasped why this book did not grip me. I WAS NOT THERE!!! She was explaining how hard it was when she was growing up (she had a friend who was African American when there was still segregation going on but towards the end)
She had told me while in our small town she was treated much like today (no separate drinking fountains and such) but she had taken a trip down south with her where segregation was still a huge thing and how she seen it and understood it and made it that more real.
Sure we younger generation were taught about it but never truly seen it. And she told me until you witness it you can never really understand it.
I have upped my rating from a two star to a three star since now I can understand it a bit clearer.
